Preparing the Greater Mekong Sub-region Flood and Drought Risk Management and Mitigation
2010 Cambodia Lao PDR Thailand Viet Nam Mekong Flood and Drought Natural Resources ADB

About the Technical Assistance

The objective of RETA was to improve the ability of communities in Cambodia, Lao PDR, Thailand and Viet Nam to prepare for, respond to, and recover from the negative impact of floods and droughts. It designed separate investment projects for Cambodia, Lao PDR, and Viet Nam. Each investment project comprised a balanced program of structural and non-structural measures identified by the country concerned to manage its risks of flood and drought. Priorities for investments were set out through the preparation of one regional and four national road maps (including Thailand). The RETA implemented in close collaboration with the MRC’s FMMP and used the outputs of that program.

Our Role

VisionRI was engaged by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for this TA to manage and mitigate the flood and drought risk in GMS region. We have deployed an experienced multidisciplinary team and started from the identification and prioritization of flood and drought issues regionally within the Lower Mekong Basin and within each country through regional and national road maps developed to improve flood and drought risk management. We have developed a prioritized program of structural and non-structural FRM and DRM interventions in each country and prepared the feasibility studies for proposed investment projects in Cambodia, Lao PDR and Viet Nam on the basis of the national roadmaps.
