A technical assistance by ADB to the Pacific Island country for drafting an urban planning legislation, improving the quality of urban infrastructure and traffic management in the capital city of Nuku'alofa
VisionRI has been retained by the Asian Development Bank to provide a technical assistance (TA 7082-TON) to the Kingdom of Tonga to develop the Urban Planning and Management System for the country. The objective of this technical assistance is to contribute for the improvement in living standards in Nuku'alofa, including in low-income residential areas, by improving urban infrastructure and providing support for formulating a planning legislation as well as capacity building in Planning and Urban Management Division (PUMD). The Outcome of the assistance will be improved urban infrastructure with corresponding impact to improve the living standards in urban areas in the country. The Output of the TA will be a well prepared urban planning legislation, an urban sector development plan, a capacitated PUMD and a traffic management plan for Nuku'alofa.
The TA has been structured in three components, i.e. preparation of planning legislation, capacity building in the PUMD with preparation of the Urban Infrastructure Development Plan (UIDP), and a traffic management study for Nuku'alofa city as well as preparation of Nuku'alofa Traffic Management Plan.
