Prof. Patnaik, an authority on Central Asian Developmental Issues, is an ardent researcher and educator. Presently with School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, India, he is guiding researches on Central Asia. Prof. Dikshit has got impeccable expertise in application of GIS for the estimation of non-point source pollutant loadings, water distribution network information system; locating solid wastes landfill sites, risk assessment due to water quality, designing solid wastes collection systems in urban areas, urban storm water management and assessing regional biodiversity and its temporal changes.





Dr. Anjali Pal

Dr Pal, a doctorate from Calcutta University, is Scientific Officer with Department of Civil Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur. She has more than fifteen years’ research experience in India, USA and Japan. During her academic career, she has won numerous awards like National Scholarship, Convention Award (Indian Chemical Society, 1988), Advanced Technology Award / International Hall of Fame Award (Inventors Club of America, 1993) and R & D 100 - Award (DOE, USA, 1994).

Annette van der Hoek

Ms Hoek, a doctorate in Indology, has taught Hindi in India Instituut, Amsterdam, The Netherlands. She is a prolific writer, translator and co-founder secretary of ‘Baalak’, an N.G.O. that concerns itself with child labour issues in India and Nepal. She has written for and reviewed various publications for advertising agencies and companies in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. She has published numerous translations and articles on Indology including Bhakti, God-notion and Worldview; and devotional Hindi poetry. She also writes on Dutch love poetry. Ms Hoek, also being a Travel Adviser and Tour Leader has traveled and made people travel a lot in all corners of the world.

His vast experience include Planning, Design, Construction, Operation and Maintenance of Rail Transit in Hong Kong, Planning and Design of Rail Transit in Taipei, Development of a US$ 50M privately financed project for RITES, Research, Design and Standardization on Indian Railways, Operation, Maintenance and Construction on Indian Railways and Highways & Urban environment. His impeccable strengths in project preparation, project management, preparation of financing plans for infrastructure projects, conceptualization and planning for cost effective solutions etc. has earned him laurels.

He has been invited to write papers, chair sessions and to speak at conferences. He has published / presented more than 80 papers on project management, urban transport, rail transit, track design, and financing of infrastructure projects in/at National and International magazines / journals / conferences.

He has been visiting lecturer on Track Work, Urban Transport and Project Management to prestigious institutions in India, such as Indian Railways Institute of Advanced Track Technology, HUDCO Institute of Human settlement, Indian Institute of Public Administration and Delhi School of Planning and Architecture. He has also graced the chairs like Invited Professor at the CNAM, Paris, France; Member of the International Scientific Committee of CODATU (1996-1998, Chairman Organizing Committee, CODATU-VII International Conference on Urban Transport in Delhi, in 1996, Founder Vice President, The Institute of Urban Transport, India [1997 to 2001] etc.

Mr. Singal has been interviewed by the Press and Television on numerous occasions.

Additionally, he has been an active educator and delivered series of lectures on ‘Rail Transit’ and allied aspects like urban environment, causes thereof and remedies. He has guided and examined post graduate students for their Master’s thesis at the School of Planning and Architecture, Delhi and was member of the World Bank group in India and internationally in the year 2000 for strategic review of their urban transport policy.

He is member of professional bodies like Institution of Engineers (India), Institution of Civil Engineers (London), and Chartered Eng. (UK).





Prof. Babu J. Alappat

Prof. Alappat is teaching courses like Solid Waste Management, Environmental Engineering and Thermal Techniques for Waste Management and guiding various researches at M.Tech and Ph.D level at Department of Civil Engineering, I.I.T. Delhi.

Earlier, Dr. Alappat was Invited Professor in Ecole Des Mines, Nantes, France and with Department of Civil Engineering, I.I.T. Kharagpur.

D.R. Shankar Iyer

Mr. Iyer, a Civil Engineer, has been involved in planning, design, construction & management of major construction projects Gujarat during his tenure as Joint Secretary & Chief Engineer in Irrigation Department, Government of Gujarat. As senior consultant he has been involved in feasibility studies of a number of water supply projects starting from conceptualisation and planning of the water supply scheme to finalisation of the water sources, basic engineering & preliminary designs, working out the O & M costs, and determination of the technical & financial viability of the projects and also carrying out different level environmental & social assessment of the projects.

He has over 25 technical papers to his credit and has participated in various seminars and conferences including a workshop on Natural Systems Management conducted by East West Center, Honolulu Hawaii, USA.





Harjendra Chaudhary

Prof. N.N. Som

Born in 1941, Prof. Nitin Som graduated in Civil Engineering from Jadavpur University in 1961 and obtained his Ph.D. from University of London in 1968. He did pioneering work in stress-path method of settlement analysis which marked an important contribution to the understanding of deformation behaviour of soils in the field. He has been a faculty in the Department of Civil Engineering Jadavpur University since 1970 and a Professor since 1979. He has been the Head of Civil Engineering Department and also served Dean, Faculty of Engineering & Technology of the University.

Professor Som has been intimately connected with the civil engineering profession of the country for almost thirty five years. His expertise in soft clay engineering has earned him wide recognition an expert on of foundations and excavations in weak soil. He was involved with the construction of Calcutta Metro, as their prime geotechnical consultant. He has also served as geotechnical consultant to Delhi Metro Rail Project and a number of highway projects in India. His areas of research are underground construction in soft ground soil, structure interaction in weak soil, ground improvement, environmental geotechnique, geotextile applications etc. He has authored more than hundred technical papers in national and international journals and conferences. Prof Som served with distinction a two-year term as the President Indian Geotechnical Society in 1999-2000. He also delivered the IGS Annual lecture in 1998 and was conferred the IGS-Kuckelmann award in 2002. Prof Som is a Life Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India), the Indian Geotechnical Society and a Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering.
